If somebody comes out with a e-book that is of poor quality and poorly written, then word that it’s not worth the money will get around quick. On the other hand, if the e-book has been out for a couple years and is still showing strong support, then chances are you’ve found yourself a gem.
4. Reviews – Just like my site, there are plenty of sites out there that review e-books and digital products. Some focus on a specific niche or class while others generalize. Read the reviews, especially reviews that give both sides of the story. A lot of these review sites have turned into glorified promotion sites. Pay attention to the sites that aren’t afraid to reveal a “bad” e-book or flaws.
5. Forums – Forums are one of the best ways to learn on the internet. Like minded people discussing specifically what you want to learn about is a great way to learn. Plus! On a forum, you can ask questions that will usually net you answers. Join a forum, and ask about an e-book or ask for a referral to a quality e-book. You’ll be surprised on how many helpful folks you’ll find in cyberspace.
6. Testimonials – Testimonials are a great way to see how useful a specific e-book is. Make sure that you take testimonials with a grain of salt though. Any webmaster can pay $10.00 to have a couple of well written testimonials created for them. Look for good testimony both on the sales page and elsewhere.
7. Money Back Guarantee – Authors that write good e-books will always offer a money back guarantee if you are unsatisfied with their product. The reason is threefold. First, most authors are confident in their product enough to know that you should enjoy it. Secondly, it provides piece of mind for a buyer who is spending $50.00 on some information. Finally, most all the services that help authors sell their products REQUIRE a money back guarantee. If you don’t see one advertised, stay away. It shows the author isn’t confident that you’ll like the book enough to want to keep it.
